INTERESTED IN RECEIVING HAKOMI THERAPY?
Hakomi Therapy is a form of guided self-study that utilizes
body awareness, mindfulness and "little experiments" to evoke and transform
limiting core beliefs. The heart of the Method works with present, felt
experience that arises spontaneously or is gently evoked by specific
Hakomi techniques.
Most sessions follow this general outline: First, we establish
a therapist-client relationship that maximizes safety, respect and cooperation
of the unconscious. Then we explore how early memories, traumas, and
environmental failures generate unconscious beliefs about ourselves
and others. To facilitate this study, we establish a state of consciousness
called Mindfulness. Mindfulness is characterized by relaxed volition,
an inward focus of attention, heightened sensitivity, and the ability
to notice and name the contents of consciousness. Its roots derive from
eastern meditation practice. In mindfulness, we make unconscious experiences
conscious and offer new experiences that allow for the reorganization
of core beliefs. Finally, we explore ways to sustain change by bridging
the insights discovered in therapy to the client's daily life.
PRACTITIONERS IN AND AROUND ATLANTA
Certified Hakomi
Therapists (CHT)
CHTs have demonstrated proficiency using Hakomi and are
endorsed by the Hakomi Institute to provide Hakomi therapy. Please note
that only licensed Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists
and Psychologists may provide psychotherapy in the state of Georgia.
However, professionals from adjunct disciplines often integrate aspects
of the method into their work with others. For example, massage therapists
often receive training in Hakomi to understand how emotions are stored
in the body and how to work with emotional material when it emerges
during a session.
We encourage you to contact CHT's directly for information on their
background, professional training, availability and fees.
